What this means

  • A dedicated LA team for pedestrian dialogue means NPCs with far more reactive, varied lines than any GTA before.
  • Ad and comedy writers across three cities signal radio stations, billboards and in-game brands written like real campaigns — classic GTA satire scaled up.
  • "None of us see it as background" — Rockstar treats world-detail writing as core content, and that's where GTA's replay value lives.
  • Writers from many backgrounds "and walks of life" point to satire written from multiple angles, not one-note parody.

Grand Theft Auto 6's living world is being written by dedicated teams for the small stuff. Speaking to LOVE magazine (issue 27, out October 5), Rockstar's senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries revealed the studio employs "a specific team of pedestrian dialogue writers in LA," plus "a team of advertising and comedy writers across New York, LA, and London."

"We have brought together an amazing team of writers and creatives to make this game and all the 'background noise' that makes the city and world come to life," Humphries said. He described the group as "a team from all sorts of backgrounds and walks of life," united by "a desire to have a bit of fun with the ridiculousness of humans and the media and advertising."

And he doesn't think of it as background at all: "And none of us see it as background! It's all part of the tapestry of the game and creates the experience of living in this wild world." For GTA, pedestrian chatter and radio stations have always been signature details — this confirms Rockstar is scaling them up dramatically for Leonida.
