What this means
- This closes the loop on the most notorious GTA 6 leak ever — the 2022 hack that showed the world an unfinished GTA 6 years early.
- The Nov 9 date puts the trial right in launch week, which means the story will likely trend again days before players finally get the game.
- This case is separate from the unrelated Cyberleek leaks of recent weeks — don't mix the two up.
Key facts
- Trial date: November 9, 2026 — 10 days before GTA 6 launches on November 19
- Source: Red Lion Chambers LinkedIn post, reported by GameRant; corroborated by TalkEsport, GTABoom, Notebookcheck, eTeknix and HappyGamer
- What changed: Kurtaj assessed fit to plead after 2 years of hospital treatment; 2023 jury found he committed 12 acts (he was then unfit to plead); Court of Appeal left those findings intact
The man accused of carrying out the infamous 2022 GTA 6 hack is going on trial — just 10 days before the game finally launches. Arion Kurtaj, alleged member of the Lapsus$ hacking group, is scheduled to stand trial at Woolwich Crown Court on November 9.
The trial date was confirmed in a LinkedIn post by Red Lion Chambers, the legal set involved in the case, and first reported by GameRant. Kurtaj has been assessed as fit to plead following two years of hospital treatment — a change from 2023, when he was found unfit to plead. Back then, a jury found he had committed the acts connected to 12 offenses, and the court imposed an indefinite hospital order. Kurtaj's case later reached the Court of Appeal, which ruled that evidence concerning six earlier hacking offenses should not have been admitted but ultimately left the jury's findings intact.
The 2022 breach remains one of gaming's biggest leaks: roughly 90 videos of unfinished GTA 6 footage appeared online years before Rockstar was ready to reveal the game, exposing early versions of Vice City, protagonists Jason and Lucia, development tools, and other unfinished material. Rockstar later confirmed an unauthorized third party had accessed its systems, while saying the incident was not expected to have a long-term effect on development.
The timing is a strange bookend for a game that has spent much of its development surrounded by leaks. It is also an entirely separate case from the unrelated Cyberleek leaks that have surfaced new alleged footage in recent weeks — GameRant notes there is no known connection between Kurtaj or the 2022 attack and Cyberleek.
