What this means

  • Don't read this as a rejection — platform holders routinely defer third-party port questions to publishers. It means no deal is currently in place that Nintendo can announce.
  • The 'ages 5 to 95' / diversity-of-experiences line is the meaningful bit: Nintendo is signaling it would welcome GTA 6 on Switch 2, removing the family-platform objection.
  • Switch 2 remains the only current console with no confirmed GTA 6 version at launch — which, paradoxically, keeps the port rumor alive until Rockstar itself says otherwise.
  • If a port happens at all, history says it'll follow the console launch by a year or more — GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 still aren't on Switch 2.

Key facts

  • What changed: Nintendo's top US executive publicly addressed the Switch 2 port question — deflecting the decision to Take-Two/Rockstar
  • Platforms confirmed: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, November 19, 2026. No Switch 2 or PC version announced

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has answered the question every Switch 2 owner keeps asking: will GTA 6 come to Nintendo's new console? In a new interview with Variety, she said the call isn't Nintendo's to make — it's up to Take-Two and Rockstar.

Asked directly about a Switch 2 version of Grand Theft Auto VI, Pritchard said: "That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time." She offered neither a confirmation nor a denial, and Nintendo had no announcement to make.

Pritchard also made clear that mature, adult-oriented games are welcome on Nintendo hardware, saying the company wants a diversity of experiences on the system for players of all ages — a door-left-open signal if Rockstar ever chooses to port the game.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No Switch 2 or PC version has been announced. The interview also touched on Nintendo's holiday plans, including a new Zelda release arriving two weeks before GTA 6.
