Xbox has secured exclusive game streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6, a new report reveals — making GTA 6 a cloud-streaming exclusive for Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch.
The details come from The Verge's Tom Warren, reporting on an Xbox internal all-hands meeting held earlier today. During the town hall, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told staff the company has something in place with GTA 6 that "no other platform holder is doing" — the deal in question being exclusive streaming rights for GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Under the deal, GTA 6 will be available for cloud gaming exclusively on Xbox's platform. That would also let Microsoft pitch the service to PC players as the only way to play GTA 6 at launch, since no PC version has been announced. How long the exclusivity lasts has not been revealed.
The news is striking because nearly all GTA 6 platform news so far has favored PlayStation — from improved PS5 Pro performance to "Plays Best on PS5" messaging and limited-edition DualSense controllers. This is the first major Xbox-related GTA 6 story, and an official announcement from Xbox or Rockstar is still awaited.
