What this means
- PC players lose the shortcut: the report's biggest promise — GTA 6 playable on PC at launch via cloud — is now off the table, according to Xbox.
- Ball's denial targets the exclusivity and PC claims specifically. A non-exclusive Xbox cloud option is not explicitly ruled out — but it would be far less of a deal than reported.
- The Verge's report is not fully dead: "misreporting" disputes the framing, not necessarily every detail. Watch for Microsoft or Rockstar to say more before treating this as settled.
- What never changed: GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The console launch story is untouched.
Key facts
- Date: October 7, 2026
- Source: Matthew Ball, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer, posting on X; reported by Insider Gaming, Times Now News and NDTV Profit
- What changed: Ball says GTA 6 "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC" at launch — disputing The Verge's October 6 report of exclusive Xbox cloud streaming rights
- Standing: Rockstar lists GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, November 19, 2026; exact scope of any streaming arrangement is subject to further announcements
Xbox has pushed back on yesterday's report that it secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto 6. Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball posted on X that GTA 6 "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC" at launch — directly disputing the two biggest claims in The Verge's report.
"While the excitement for GTA VI and Xbox is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting," Ball wrote. "We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
The Verge's Tom Warren reported on October 6 that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told staff the company had secured exclusive game streaming rights for GTA 6 at launch, teasing something "no other platform holder is doing" at an internal all-hands. The report — covered widely, including in our original post — suggested Xbox Cloud Gaming could become the only way to play GTA 6 on PC at launch.
Ball's wording rules out both the exclusivity framing and the PC angle. It does not explicitly rule out any form of GTA 6 cloud streaming on Xbox, but it makes clear players should not treat the arrangement as an exclusive deal or a PC workaround. Rockstar's official platform listing remains PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the game launching November 19, 2026.
