What this means

  • PC players have no confirmed launch-day route to GTA 6 — cloud streaming is not the workaround.
  • The denial is narrow: it rules out exclusivity and PC streaming at launch, not cloud streaming entirely or a future native PC version.
  • The native Xbox Series X|S release on November 19 is fully unaffected — nothing in this dispute changes it.

Key facts

  • Date: October 19, 2026 (denial); original report October 18

  • What changed: The Verge corrected its report — no exclusive deal, no PC streaming
  • Confirmed: GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; no PC version announced

Xbox has denied a report claiming it secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6. Chief strategy officer Matthew Ball posted on X on October 19 that the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC" — a day after The Verge reported Microsoft had landed a deal to stream Grand Theft Auto VI through Xbox Cloud Gaming, including to PC, at launch.

The Verge's original report said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees at an all-hands meeting that Microsoft was preparing to do something with GTA 6 that "no other platform holder is doing." Citing sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, the outlet reported this meant exclusive cloud streaming rights, with PC players able to access the game through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch.

Ball called the exclusivity framing "misreporting." His exact words: "We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC." GamingBolt and Vice independently reported the same denial with matching wording.

The Verge has since updated its report to acknowledge the deal is not exclusive and does not include PC streaming. What Ball's statement does not rule out: whether any form of Xbox Cloud Gaming access could exist on Xbox consoles, handhelds, or browsers, and whether a native PC version arrives later. GTA 6 remains confirmed only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19 — Rockstar has not announced a PC version.
